3. You get unexpected insight and inspiration when you listen to people and ideas outside your field and life experiences.

4. Connecting people who love and value ideas inspires creative conversations and action.

About us, about you

TEDxSingapore and TED regard ourselves are a global community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who have two things in common:  Seeking a deeper understanding of the world and wanting to turn that understanding into a better future for us all.

Our passion and purpose is to reach out and inspire people to learn, share and engage in close conversations about ideas that have the potential and power to make a difference in our world and in our lives.

We connect 'curious souls' like yourself who love and value ideas though TED-style Ideas Events in Singapore.

We share ideas worth spreading from Singapore with the world through the global TED community, and serve as a focal point for the TED community, TED Prize winners, Fellows and TEDsters who live in and visit Singapore.

The TEDxSingapore curatorial team includes many talented thinkers and doers and TEDsters (people who have attended TED Conferences) and TED Fellows.

In 2007, a group of Singaporeans passionate about ideas and who were ardent fans of TED from its earliest days organised monthly meetings to hear and discuss  ideas across diverse fields and topics.  Meetings were open to anyone to attend and were typically small, numbering 20-30 people to encourage close conversations.  In early 2009, TED awarded us a licence to found TEDxSingapore, as a means and opportunity to reach out to more people in Singapore, and build into this vision.

For passion, for people, for purpose

All TEDxSingapore idea events are non-commercial and we strive to make all our events accessible to all people in Singapore, as a principle, we do not charge for attendance and participation unless there are direct costs involved.

This is made possible only because of innumerate contributions of time, talent, technology, resources, venues, ideas by talented volunteers and fantastic support from individuals, organisations and companies in Singapore who value and are passionate about ideas.  And none of this would exist without the vision, generousity and support from TED.

What is TED?

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani,Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

Follow TED on Twitter at twitter.com/TEDTalks, or on Facebook at facebook.com/TED.

TED2011, "The Rediscovery of Wonder," will be held February 28-March 4, 2011, in Long Beach, California, with the TEDActive simulcast in Palm Springs, California.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx events, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised.
